Our Beginning offers year-round care and education for infants, toddlers and preschoolers in North Seattle. Inspired by internationally-renowned pedagogies, Reggio Emilia and RIE®, our unique program promotes healthy growth and development, ignites a passion for learning, and celebrates the magic of childhood.
We put play and relationships at the center of education, scaffolding learning as children grow. In our emergent curriculum approach, teachers engage directly with children’s interests to create experiences that spark wonder and curate collaborative investigations around a wide variety of topics. We draw from internationally recognized early childhood pedagogies, the Reggio Emilia Approach and RIE® (Resources for Infant Educarers), to respectfully partner with children and instill a deep and enduring love for learning. Valuing multiculturalism and the cognitive benefits of bilingualism, we expose children to a second language beginning in our toddler and preschool classrooms.
We facilitate children's journey to independence by supporting them in pursuing their interests and mastering practical life skills. We center this learning around relationships, encouraging collaboration and peer-to-peer teaching.
We offer two tracks of dual-language immersion classrooms , for toddlers and preschoolers, Mandarin-English and Spanish-English. Exposing children to a second language promotes inclusivity and curiosity about diverse cultures. Children gain the cognitive benefits of bilingualism, including greater mental flexibility and a stronger sense of identity.
At Our Beginning, we believe in a comprehensive learning journey that begins in infancy and continues through pre-kindergarten. We focus on strengthening social-emotional intelligence, physical well-being, and cognitive development. By the time children graduate, they are more than ready for kindergarten.
Organic, plant-based meals are prepared daily in-house and served family-style, including breakfast, lunch, two snacks, and made-from-scratch infant purees.
Our rich curriculum includes specialist classes in music, movement, art, and nutrition. These dynamic and varied daily experiences start in our infant rooms, and offerings expand as children grow.
With a dedicated art studio and a full-time art teacher, our program offers students a unique platform for creative expression.
Our Infant-Toddler Center and Bilingual Preschool offers year-round, full-time care and education. Our Bilingual Preschool has two dual-immersion tracks: Mandarin-English and Spanish-English. All programming runs Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm at our central location in the Fremont / Ballard neighborhood of North Seattle. All programs include organic, plant-based meals made in-house daily: breakfast, lunch, two snacks, and scratch-made infant purees.
Our infant program prioritizes nurturing relationships and individualized care, laying the foundation for a lifetime of healthy development. Our caregiving philosophy is inspired by the RIE® Educaring Approach, emphasizing the importance of secure attachment and allowing infants to participate actively.
Our vibrant curriculum expands in toddler classrooms with specialist programming in art, music, movement, and exposure to a second language. Rich experiences combine with warm, loving care to foster growth in essential learning domains.
Our preschool and prekindergarten programs dive into a rich, play-based curriculum of projects and investigations based on children's interests. As their abilities and independence blossom, we meet them with exciting challenges that ignite a passion for learning.
